My "musings" page will include new articles and videos that I discover that are relevant to this lifestyle. Please check this page often because I am adding updates every week. I feel it is very important to share what I am learning and experiencing as I practice and improve this lifestyle that I believe will prevent ALS and Cancer from starting in my body.
On every page of this website are links to articles and You Tube Videos. Over the past 3 years I have used the internet to educate myself on this lifestyle. I am sharing all the internet sources I have found and used to attain my high level of understanding.
If you want to get started today just do one thing. Eliminate all products in your kitchen that has these ingredients: high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup. hydrogenated vegetable oils, hydrogenated anything. These ingredients are poisons and toxic to our bodies and brains. When you buy any processed food in a box, can or bag read the ingredients carefully to make sure these ingredients are not listed.
What IS ALS?
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. In 2012 and 2013 stem cell studies to cure and stop the progression of ALS are rapidly advancing to human clinical stages: SfN13: Astrocytes for the people? and ALS, PlanB2? It will be 5 to 10 years before potential treatments are available for ALS patients and their families.
Please watch this video about the Ice Bucket Challenge. It's about how it was started and it's impact which is very significant.

ALSTDI The ALS Therapy Development Institute is conducting a tissue sample collection study as part of the first ever integrated precision medicine effort to end ALS. The precision medicine program at ALS TDI encompasses much of what would commonly be called a "translational research program" used at academic and pharmaceutical companies alike to accelerate drug discovery and development. However, our program has been designed to include several additional steps and patient-integrated measures which we believe may positively impact speed and the quality of the data produced.
ALSTDI is the organization I support with contributions from myself and my friends. It's very exciting to see that they are starting this first ever study. Please visit the site and click the "Get Prescreened" button.
Cancer has effected our Family
Wade died from stomach cancer
on January 9th after just 6 months of failed chemo therapies. More than ever my
wife, who has a sister battling ovarian cancer, and I are very focused on eating organic whole foods
and sleeping 8-9 hours every night. When Wade and my wife's sister had their
first symptom their cancer had progressed to stage 4 and started spreading. Since there is no test for these cancers
and many others we must keep our bodies clean
and healthy. We will be re-reading many of the
books I have purchased since
Reid got sick.
How do we Stop ALS and Cancer from Starting?
I am 100% confident that my bad genes will not express themselves causing ALS and Cancer in my lifetime. I know that our family has the familial ALS version because 3 family members have died from this disease. I have not been tested for the SOD-1 gene but I know I have a 50/50 chance of having this gene that causes ALS.
The whole idea is this: know that we can influence gene expression, but – more than that – we know HOW to influence it in a direction of health, fitness, productivity, happiness, etc. The strategy is not the DNA but a set of lifestyle and behavioral guidelines that, if followed, allows you to recast yourself as a healthy, fit person using “controlled gene expression”. Our basic human DNA is relatively unchanged from the past 10,000 years. As long as we understand what it took to evolve to that point, we can find ways to continue to influence gene expression that are in alignment with that pre-agricultural DNA.
Let me just say that gene expression is the real deal, and it’s truly at the heart of my daily regimen. We can influence gene expression to a far greater degree than anyone ever thought possible. I encourage you to research this topic to learn more and to stay up to date on future advances. This is good article by Dean Ornish titled Changing Lifestyle Changes Gene Expression. Dean has a lot of You Tube Videos like this one. This is another great Dean Ornish Video. I subscribe to Dean's channel because he has proof that your lifestyle can influence gene expression in a good and bad way. The key is the lifestyle you choose to follow 24/7. This is a 2013 Dean Ornish video that confirms that changing your lifestyle will increase your longevity and health in many ways.
Even by the most conservative geneticists’ standards, we have anywhere from 80% to 97% control over our own genetic expressions. We ALL have dormant genes for all sorts of things, both good and bad. You’re not just fat because your mother and father were fat. –Nor are you destined to have a heart attack just because half the people in your family have had one, or by the same token will you get diabetes, or cancer. Genetics can have some influence, certainly…but genes are turned on and off by regulatory genes and regulatory genes are mainly controlled by nutrients. A gene will not express itself unless the internal environment is conducive to its expression… and we have ultimate control over that by the foods we choose to eat, the emotions we habitually choose to experience, the toxicity of the environment in which we live and the lifestyle we consistently choose to live. Nora Gegaudas, author of PrimalBody-PrimalMind.Are Your Problems Genetic? This video illustrates the reality of epigenetics and explains how we are not at all the victims of our genetic inheritance. We are far more powerful than we have been led to believe, and the key to expressing more favorable genes lies in our perception. How To Activate Your DNA. In this video we have a look at a few strategies that can seriously enhance cellular health and allow us to realize a lot more of our genetic potential.
My Results So Far
After 3 years I feel great and everyone says I look younger and fitter. I have tons of energy all day long and sleep a solid 7-8 hours every night. Also I have not been sick since implementing this lifestyle in early 2011 (knock on wood).
After my first 3 months of drinking green smoothies and eating lots of salads and organic fruits my muscle twitching stopped. Before this change in my diet I was twitching all over during the day and at night. I was waking my wife up at night and it was hard to fall asleep.
Also, my grey hair disappeared and my finger and toe nails started growing like weeds. These were amazing changes that really caught my attention. If all this was happening on the outside of me what was going on in the inside of me. I was excited and so I started drinking more green smoothies and researching what else I could do to take my holistic lifestyle to a higher level.
Diet to Stop ALS
Doctor David Steenblock is a holistic doctor in Mission Viejo CA who treats ALS patients. I agree with his writings and his protocol for stopping this disease. His "Diet for ALS" is the most comprehensive and detailed report I have found on the internet.
I follow his organic diet suggestions as best I can and feel this is the best diet to prevent my bad genes from expressing themselves. However my diet is more like the Ketogenic Diet. I recently purchased a Nova Max Plus Glucose & Ketone Monitor to check my levels daily. The monitor and test strips was only $39 from American Diabetes Wholesale. My goal is to keep my glucose level between 60-70 mg/dl and my ketone level between 1-3 mM all the time. I strongly recommend that you read the 2 Diet articles linked above. The "Diet for ALS" article is very long but includes lots of research summaries as backup. I have read this article many times.Scientists Identify New Drug Target to Treat ALS SAN FRANCISCO—June 8, 2015—Scientists from the Gladstone Institutes and the University of Michigan have identified a cellular mechanism that can be targeted to treat ALS. I really like reading new articles about ALS advancements. We are going see many more advancements and discoveries over the next 4-5 years. I truely believe a cure is on it's way by 2025.
Yes, ALS Is Completely Preventable. Many people would like to know how to prevent als, especially people who have seen multiple members of their families experience the health problem, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s disease or motor neuron disease. Fortunately als is completely preventable, and that’s true, by the way, whether or not one carries certain gene mutations that are said to be somehow involved in the creation of als.
